Scientific committee on the heritage of industrial architecture and engineering art

The Scientific Committee on the Heritage of Industrial Architecture and Engineering Art was established to change the attitude towards industrial monuments, to raise their prestige in the public consciousness; to promote the preservation and modern use of the heritage of industrial architecture and engineering art on the basis of unified methodological recommendations.

Tasks of the Scientific Committee:

  • Studying and placing under protection monuments of industrial architecture and engineering art, collecting up-to-date information on active and conserved objects (including departmental museums); creating a unified information base of historical productions.
  • Development of preservation methodology: elaboration of approaches and regulations that take into account the specifics of this field; compilation of expert opinions on restoration works and re-profiling of monuments of industrial culture; publication of scientific research.
  • Exchange of professional experience through scientific and methodological conferences and round tables.
  • Development of concepts of industrial museums on the basis of historical monuments, organization of expositions at historical production facilities and temporary inter-museum thematic exhibitions on engineering and architectural heritage.
  • Popularization of industrial heritage and formation of historical consciousness among the general public, especially young people; media appearances, thematic lectures and excursions, interaction with authorities, formation of legislative proposals.
  • International cooperation of experts, exchange of information and methodological developments

Inclusion of new expert members in the Scientific Committee:

Consideration of candidates for inclusion in the Scientific Committee is carried out on the proposal of expert members or self-nomination of a member of the NC ICOMOS, Russia.

The decision on inclusion is made by a majority of votes of the expert members of the Scientific Committee at a regular meeting.

At the same time, a decision may be made to include the candidate as an associate expert member (this status does not give the right to vote in decision-making by the Scientific Committee)

The first meeting of the Scientific Committee was held on February 3, 2021, where the initial composition was approved and the Bureau was elected.

The current composition of the Bureau is:

  • Secretary General of NCUAN – Morozova Olga Aleksandrovna (St. Petersburg)

Vice-Presidents:

  • Tokmeninova Lyudmila Ivanovna (Ekaterinburg)
  • Tyutcheva Narine Grayrovna (Moscow).
